Sadly, many people read magazines, online articles, and books about healthy eating that provide misleading information. The wrong advice can actually detour you from the healthy foods you should be eating.
In the case of nutrition, the lies and inaccuracies are in abundance. Big corporations and food marketing companies will do just about anything to get you to purchase their product.
They are notorious for positioning their products as healthy when in actuality they are anything but healthy!
Grocery shopping has become more like detective work if you want to stick to healthy foods. Unless you are skilled at sleuthing out the ‘bad guys’, chances are some are in your kitchen cupboards and pantries right now.
Today we will talk about three seemingly healthy foods that are anything but.
If these are currently making their way into your diet plan, it’s time you reconsider and eliminate them immediately.
1. Corn
Corn and all corn derivatives are the very first type of food that you must avoid. Corn sounds healthy enough, but when in the context of high fructose corn syrup it is anything but healthy.
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is one of the leading causes of obesity today and is associated with a number of health problems including heart disease and diabetes.
HFCS is not processed by the body in the same manner as glucose is, so much of it ends up in the liver.
Unfortunately, the liver can only store very small amounts of fructose, so the excess gets immediately converted into triglycerides. High triglycerides put you at high risk of heart attack or stroke.
There is no place for HFCS in your diet, so eliminate it immediately.
2. Wheat
Wheat and all its derivatives are another big no-no to have in your diet plan.
Did you know that when you eat refined wheat based foods there is a bigger impact on your blood sugar response than when you eat a tablespoon of pure table sugar?
The resulting blood sugar spikes from wheat can lead to diabetes and obesity over time.
Many people are also unable to digest wheat properly and it can be linked to a condition called leaky gut syndrome.
Leaky gut syndrome can compromise your immune system. A compromised immune system can lead to a number of auto-immune conditions.
If you have gluten intolerance and consume wheat-containing foods it can lead to symptoms such as ongoing fatigue, fuzzy mindedness, stomach pain, and cramping.
Wheat sneaks into so many different foods we eat so be sure to check ingredients closely.
3. Soy
Soy is another food you need to eliminate from your diet.
A high consumption of soy in your diet will cause hormone disruption in both men and women, throwing off the natural balance that should be present. This can lead to an increased risk of stomach fat accumulation.
Additionally, more than 90 percent of soybeans produced in the United States are genetically modified and sprayed with pesticides and herbicides.
The long term effects of GMOs on humans is still unknown, but the chemicals sprayed on them have been linked to cancer in labs animals.
Conclusion
These three ingredients can drastically reduce manufacturing costs and as a result they are found in many foods and are prevalent in the diets of most people.
If you want to lead a long and healthy life, make healthier dietary choices and start by removing these three foods from your diet.
Focus on eating foods in their natural state – foods that come straight from the earth such as lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, sweet potatoes, olive oil, avocado, nuts, and coconuts and you’ll be building a nutrition plan that will promote long term health.
