Men, when you are ready to start a family the first thing you may consider is boosting your sperm count and motility (motion). Living in a toxic society at practically every turn it is no surprise that more and more men are struggling with fertility challenges. Relying on sheer luck could work but it sometimes takes up to a year before couples become successfully pregnant. For some, however, waiting this long could be a huge waste of time.
So many couples visit a doctor after being unable to conceive to find out that the female is fine but that the male has weak sperm. This can add to the psychological stress of starting a family and put unnecessary pressure on the process. Before a barrage of tests and possibly medicine, learn to strengthen your sperm through some easy natural fixes that could turn you into a doting father before you know it.
Lose It
Here’s another reason to shed some of that extra poundage. Dr. Sébastien Czernichow, head of the nutrition department at Ambroise Paré University Hospital in Paris, France was the lead researcher in a study of male fertility. He and his team discovered that men with a high BMI (body mass index) which exceeded 25 could be at risk for a low sperm count.
It is believed that more estrogen is produced in overweight men. This is due to the fact that fat tissue has been shown to convert testosterone, the essential hormone that contributes to healthy sperm, to the female hormone estrogen.
The study concluded that,
“These data strongly suggest that excess body weight affects sperm production,”
Get Unsaturated
One way to slim down is to drive passed, rather than through, fast food establishments. The saturated fat consumed by eating in these restaurants (and at home) is not only slowly killing humans but it is significantly affecting their ability to produce offspring.
Researchers at Harvard Medical School studied the diets and sperm samples of participants over a four year period.
As reported by BBC News,
“Compared with those eating the least fat, men with the highest fat intake had a 43% lower sperm count and 38% lower sperm concentration.”
For healthy sperm production it is therefore recommended to eat more omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, such as:
Herbal Sperm Enhancers
A proper diet and exercise program is paramount to increasing your overall health, including sperm production. However, there are herbal supplements that you can add for a potential extra boost.
Always check with your doctor before taking any herbal remedy to make sure it is safe for your individual health history.
Ashwagandha
Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (eCAM) open access peer reviewed journal published an Indian study of the effects of the root extract Ashwagandha on sperm production.
Researcher’s concluded that,
“The most consistent positive finding of the present study was that decreased fertility in males was ameliorated [improved] by Ashwagandha root extract as evidenced by an increase in sperm concentration, ejaculate volume, and motile sperm count and an increase in the serum levels of testosterone.”
Maca Root
Native to the mountainous regions of Peru, maca root is a thousand year old remedy found in black and red forms. According to Natural News, black maca has “shown to have a positive effect on sperm production, mobility and volume,” and red maca is capable of reducing “the size of the prostate gland, a problem which can affect around 50% of men over age 50.” The prostate plays a major role in male sexual function.
Tribulus
Very popular in the Indian practice of Ayurvedic medicine, tribulus terrestris sometimes called gokshura, has been used to increase sperm count, enhance hormone levels, strengthen sperm quality and act as an aphrodisiac.
Talk to your naturopathic doctor and/or physician about these and other natural, alternative choices on how to strengthen your sperm. Losing weight, getting enough exercise and enhancing your diet with high vitamin, mineral, amino acid, enzyme and herbal additions just may get your guys strong enough to swim a marathon.
