Intermittent fasting is the practice of going long periods of time throughout a 24 hour period without consuming any calories.
Generally, one that follows an intermittent fasting program will have an 8 hour window during the day to eat and then will go 16 hours without eating.
For example, one might have breakfast at 11 am and finish dinner by 7 pm and then not eat anything again until 11 am the next day. Another method of I.F. is to significantly restrict calories on specific days and then consume as many as 4 times that amount the following day! For example, you may eat 500 calories today and then you get to eat 2,200 calories tomorrow!
While this practice has grown in popularity due to its weight loss benefits, recent information is showing that intermittent fasting can actually have very positive affects on the brain.
