Enzymes are an integral part of our overall systemic homeostasis. Our body produces and uses enzymes all the time as they are essential to life sustainment.
However, there are also enzyme supplements that can assist our natural enzyme production when outside forces pose a more challenging struggle. These enzyme supplements have been particularly effective for digestive assistance.
Protease, amylase and lipase are the three most used of digestion enzymes. These help breakdown proteins, carbohydrates and fats more efficiently. As a result, side effects such as bloating, gas and flatulence are significantly reduced.
The other two enzymes that may be in a digestive enzyme formula are disaccharides for sugars and cellulase for fiber.
There is also another enzyme application that is being linked to decreasing health challenges beyond the digestive process. This is called systemic enzyme therapy.
Systemic enzyme therapy combines a variety of plant and sometimes animal sources into a daily supplement that, for some, is gaining traction as another natural alternative remedy success.
Always check with your doctor before taking systemic enzymes as they can be contraindicative to certain medicines and/or conditions and diseases.
Circulating Immune Complex
Circulating Immune Complex (CIC) is the process that the immune system creates when a foreign body enters your system or an injury is sustained. In an attempt to rid the body of outside attacks, or send out an injury alert, the CIC creates inflammation at the source.
This inflammation continues even after the initial response is successful. It can cause pain, swelling and discoloration either topically or on a cellular level. Most reach for a synthetic remedy such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and other conventional analgesics to dull the pain.
These remedies work on a surface level but can have damaging side effects, particularly within the kidneys, liver and stomach lining. These medications also prevent the CIC process from protecting surrounding tissue such as intestinal lining and kidney function.
Super Healers
Systemic enzyme therapy is easily embraced by the body creating no side effects. It has been linked to reducing inflammation, decreasing scar tissue and cleansing the blood through various processes.
Some refer to the enzyme’s unique hydrolytic “lock-n-key” mechanism that enables the enzyme to latch on to “bad” CIC’s while leaving the good ones alone. It also has the ability to “eat away” scar tissue and roaming toxins such as viruses and bacteria.
In addition, many health challenges are the result of an autoimmune response. This is when the body becomes confused and attacks itself. It can create a debilitating cycle resulting in development of many diseases including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis and Lupus.
Systemic enzymes are capable of attacking these extra antibodies that are damaging healthy tissue and reversing the autoimmune response.
Using Systemic Enzymes
Digestive enzyme therapy is more popular in the United States. Systemic enzyme therapy has been used for over forty years in Europe and Asia, yet in America it is just beginning to emerge.
However, aside from added specialty herbs, minerals, amino acids (or the like), the ingredients of systemic enzymes are similar if not exactly the same as digestive enzymes. It is how you take the enzymes which determines their abilities.
If you want to use the enzymes for digestion, take them with food. The enzymes will immediately begin breaking down their respective compound.
If using enzymes to address other health challenges beyond digestion, take on an empty stomach. When the enzymes do not encounter food they will then be absorbed into the blood stream and immediately become attracted to bacteria, viruses, scar tissue, and inflammation.
Once they latch on to any of these they consume and excrete them from the body preventing potential or further damage.
Tom Bohager, author of Everything You Need to Know About Enzymes, describes how the protease enzyme is one of the most important,
“The immune system’s ability to fight off invaders depends on the enzyme protease, which breaks down proteins. Most types of illnesses are in some way related to protein. For example, cancer cells are surrounded by the protein fibrin. The blood clots that cause stroke and a high percentage of heart attacks are made up of this same protein. Pathogenic bacteria and parasites are comprised of proteins. Viruses are enveloped by protein, and fungal forms such as Candida contain a protein nucleus surrounded by a chitin shell. Therefore, we need a plentiful supply of protease to overcome protein invaders in the body that will make us ill if left unchecked.”
Check with your doctor and try systemic enzyme therapy to see if it can prevent or help your current pain. Combined with a healthy diet and exercise regiment it could make a world of difference.
