Natural Antidotes

Natural Antidotes

When you hear the word antidote you may immediately resort to a television show or sci-fi movie you saw where the hero gets the antidote to the poison, lives and saves the day. Well, there are some real life natural antidotes you can actually use to reverse adverse effects of anything from bad food to radiation. Age old remedies that could be beneficial to know. Always consult with your physician or naturopathic doctor before using any natural antidotes.

Marijuana Use

These two natural antidotes to reverse the effects of THC (tetrahydrochloride), the mind altering drug in marijuana, may be helpful. Depending on what US State you’re in, nowadays it easy to accidentally inhale marijuana smoke let alone eat a laced dessert treat. There are also recreational users that may need to get sober fast. These two antidotes may help.

  • Pinene  – This is a natural compound found in pine nuts, pistachios and inhaled pine oil which has been shown to enhance mental clarity.
  • Citrus Pulp – Either eaten directly or consumed through fruit juice, citrus pulp (orange, grapefruit, lemon) has known anxiolytic (inhibits anxiety) effects.

Garlic for Anthrax

“Ahhh, Anthrax will never cross paths with me.”

In the early 2000’s, Anthrax became a viable concern when several innocent, unrelated people were exposed and died after opening mail tainted with these killer spores. Possibly those who perished may have been able to live by consuming garlic, a potential Anthrax antidote.

According to the Journal of Nutrition, March 2001, “Garlic is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that even blocks toxin production by germs.”

Also, from the book, Garlic: The Science and Therapeutic Application, “Freshly cut cloves of garlic or garlic powder may be beneficial. The antibiotic activity of one milligram of allicin, the active ingredient in garlic, equals 15 units of penicillin.”

Eating raw garlic that has been sliced or crushed ensures its most potent state as this is when its active ingredient, allicin, is released.

Radiation Exposure

Yup, here’s another far out concept, being exposed to radiation. Yet, it happens. There were the nuclear reactor meltdowns at Chernobyl in Russia (1986) and Fukushima in Japan (2011). However, a more common potential danger could result through excessive exposure from x-rays when dealing with a serious illness.

These natural antidotes may be good in a pinch:

  • Apple Pectin – A study by Russian researchers, published in Swiss Medical Weekly (2004) reported that, “…using a powder containing 15-16 percent [apple] pectin on 64 children, showed that the powder reduced Cesium-137 [radiation] counts by an average of 62 percent, compared to 13.9 percent in the placebo group. (Natural News)
  • Vitamin C – Only 25 mg were used on Fukushima workers before each radiation cleanup shift. No DNA damage was detected in any of those who took the supplement regularly. Those who did exhibited beginning signs of DNA damage prompted high doses of intravenous vitamin C that returned DNA damage to normal.
  • Potassium Iodide (KI) – This is a natural stable (non-radioactive) salt capable of blocking radioactive iodide which can damage the thyroid. KI can be obtained in pill or liquid form. Talk to your doctor about proper dosage.

Caffeine Overdose

Maybe you’re grabbing way too many coffee’s in one day and suddenly experiencing extreme anxiety, dehydration, scattered focus and excessive movement. These and other symptoms may be an indication of caffeine overdose. The antidote for this is as follows:

  • Hydrate – Drink 32 oz of filtered water within 15 minutes to flush out caffeine.
  • Supplement – Restore vitamin C by eating citrus fruits to reverse mineral depletion.
  • Calm – Meditate, being sure to close your eyes and breathe in your nose and out your mouth.
  • Aroma – Dab lavender oil on your earlobes, temples and under your nose for Central Nervous System (CVS) relaxation.

Using natural antidotes could be of major importance in the wake of disaster; to rebound and regroup; or to simply bring one back to earth. Keep these antidote remedies in your home for any related emergencies or concerns that may arise.
